Merten gorilla sai 2015 myös Pohjoismaiden neuvoston lasten- ja nuortenkirjapalkinnon ja 2017 Saksassa vuoden parhaalle lastenkirjalle myönnettävän Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis -palkinnon. Wegeliuksen teoksia on käännetty 13 kielelle.
